In June 2025, Dr Viktoriia Kotenko from the Institute of Archaeology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine completed a one-month research fellowship at the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IAE PAS) in Warsaw, within the PAN–NASU exchange scheme carried out under the Ancient Monuments of the Black Sea project.
During her stay, she worked on the collection of tableware from ancient Myrmekion, held at the National Museum in Warsaw, and conducted extensive library research as well as an analysis of photographic documentation from Polish excavations in Crimea preserved in the archive of Prof. Zofia Sztetyłło.
The results of this work were presented in an English-language lecture entitled “Local and Imported Ceramics of the Hellenistic Period from Greek Centres in the Northern Black Sea Region”, delivered at the premises of IAE PAS. The lecture attracted considerable interest and stimulated further discussion on the role of North Pontic centres within exchange networks in the Hellenistic period.
As part of the ongoing collaboration, the preparation and publication of a catalogue of ceramics from Myrmekion held in the collections of the National Museum in Warsaw are planned.
