The archaeological mission at Olbia has begun!

This year’s archaeological campaign conducted by the National Museum in Warsaw at Olbia began on 4 July. In 2017, we plan to broaden the trench by 2 archaeological squares (50 m2) to 150 m2 and begin to explore the youngest cultural layers. The mission will last until 12 August. Furthermore, a photography exhibition documenting last year’s campaign at Olbia is scheduled to open on 15 July (Saturday). The exhibition will take place in Odessa, in the seat of the prestigious Greek Cultural Foundation, under the patronage of the Polish Institute in Kyiv and the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Ukraine. During one of the Sundays, all members of the mission will also travel to Berezan Island, where they will get to know the site and the latest findings of the Ukrainian-Russian (Hermitage Museum) archaeological expedition. Berezan is the oldest documented (7th c. BC) site of Greek colonization in the region.
